Call for Proposals

Conference Theme: Glass Ceiling and Chinese American Librarians

Saturday, April 30, 2011 at University of Central Florida, South Lake Campus

Come to share with your Chinese American librarian colleagues the challenges and issues you are facing in your career growth, as well as trends and projects in your work by submitting a program proposal. In the call for proposals, we challenge participants to explore this conference theme “Glass Ceiling and Chinese American Librarians”. We welcome proposals for paper and poster presentations, and panel discussions that address issues in the following four areas:

•  Career Growth for Chinese American Librarians: issues and strategies
•  Digital Initiatives (including institutional repository, digital archives , finding aids, web development, and use of web 2.0 technologies)
•  Outreach Programs with Libraries in China
•  E-resource Management (including licensing, vendor selection, price negotiation, cataloging, etc.)

The 2011 CALA Southeast Chapter Annual Conference is scheduled to be held at University of Central Florida, South Lake Campus on Saturday April 30, 2011. The UCF South Lake campus is located at the beautiful hilly town Clermont, FL (a suburb of 22 miles west of Orlando).  You can find more information about the city of Clermont here. Highlights of this year’s conference:

• It features an outstanding opening keynote address by Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee, the former Chief of Asian Division, Library of Congress and the Dean of Libraries Emeritus, Ohio University
• LIS students are encouraged to attend with lodging assistance
• A free local winery tour is scheduled in the afternoon on the conference day

Submission deadline: Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 5:00pm EST

Notification of proposal acceptance will be sent out by April 7 , 2011
